About the role

  • Independently perform monthly closing duties including journal entry preparation and account analysis
  • Prepare financial statements, budget preparation, executive management reports and statutory required reports for assigned entity
  • Prepare and analyze material general ledger account balances and audit schedules
  • Manage and reconcile banking accounting process daily and reconcile postings to subsidiary systems
  • Analyze actual operating data and prepare key operating indicator scorecards
  • Perform research into complex accounting issues and respond to external auditor information requests
  • Establish new awards in the accounting system and coordinate department and budget setup for new awards
  • Support preparation of tax and audit schedules, month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Make recommendations to enhance internal controls and operating performance
  • Serve as a mentor to junior team members and assist with training and onboarding
  • Interface across the organization with various system departments, external business partners, auditors, and government agencies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Three years experience in accounting; healthcare environment preferred
  • Professional Accounting Certification (preferred)
  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State Licensure (preferred)
  • CIA - Certified Internal Auditor (IIA) (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Strong knowledge of general software applications
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
  • Expert knowledge in certain accounting area, as assigned
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
  • Outstanding teamwork skills
  • May require travel within and outside the Houston metropolitan area
