Provide prompt and personalized service to all patients and respond to nurse call system
Answer incoming telephone calls for the unit and transfer as appropriate
Facilitate and support effective throughput with timely communication
Greet patients and visitors; assist with directions, information and guidance
Communicate pertinent patient care and family data to health care team and escalate issues as needed
Organize unit workflow, paperwork, and pro-actively problem-solve
Pull/print daily reports (daily shift report, charge nurse reports, handoff reports, My Daily Care Plan)
Coordinate requests to Facilities Management/Maintenance and Biomed; round through unit to check environment and equipment
Serve as in-house courier (retrieving blood, hand delivering labs, tele boxes, etc.)
Assist with calls to physicians and their offices, bed management, transfer services, and transport for procedures
Follow up calls for tests and procedures as directed by nursing staff
Remove patient from system upon discharge or transfer and monitor/unit supply par levels
Monitor and address unit noise level, respond to patient calls promptly, and report observations to licensed personnel
Support initiatives to prevent pressure injuries, patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections
Participate in performance improvement projects, shared governance, and own professional development
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
Two years of secretarial/office experience, college/vocational training, or patient care
Prior health care experience and/or medical terminology preferred
BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) preferred
Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform essential functions
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers with a customer service focus
Ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment (fax, PC, printers, telephones, etc.)
Highly proficient computer application skills
Ability to escalate issues to staff and leadership as needed
Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize workflow, and problem-solve with minimal supervision
Ability to perform clerical tasks: answer phones, transfer calls, pull/print reports, remove patients from system upon discharge or transfer
