About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during open-heart and vascular surgical procedures
- Anticipate equipment, supply, and instrument needs based on patient, physician, and procedure requirements
- Prepare surgical cases by selecting appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring instruments are in working order
- Maintain aseptic technique and universal precautions before, during, and after procedures
- Account for instrumentation and return it to decontamination or Central Sterile Processing in an organized manner
- Participate in orientation and instruction of personnel functioning in the scrub role
- Restock and clean operating rooms and equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment and report unsafe conditions
- Plan, orient, teach, guide, and evaluate staff and students
- Use material resources cost-effectively and recommend cost-saving measures
- Support recruitment and retention through role-modeling, peer relationships, and preceptor or mentor programs
- Maintain current knowledge of standards, patient care technology, agency regulations, certifications, and department policies
- Participate in in-services, mandatory meetings, and process improvement activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1 year of open-heart Surgical Tech experience required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Graduate of vocational Surgical Tech School or 3 years of surgical tech experience required
- 6 months of first scrub experience preferred
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
- Tech in Surgery–Certified (TS-C) certification preferred
- Ability to demonstrate intra-operative clinical competency, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, universal precautions, instrument maintenance, decontamination procedures, and standards
- Knowledge of relevant compliance, regulations, legislation, certifications, and HonorHealth policies
