About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide professional nursing care guided by ANA standards and the Code of Ethics
- Record medical histories and symptoms, assist with diagnostic tests, analyze results, operate medical equipment, and administer treatments and medications
- Establish and revise individualized, family-centered, culturally relevant plans of care
- Start, maintain, and discontinue IV lines for fluids, medications, blood, and blood products
- Initiate treatments, emergency and resuscitative measures, and therapies according to standing orders and policies
- Observe patients, document nursing interventions and monitoring data, and evaluate progress toward outcomes
- Educate patients and families on illness or injury management, post-treatment and home care, diet, nutrition, exercise, medications, and therapy
- Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides and delegate appropriately
- Precept new-hire staff and students and support competency completion
- Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Apply evidence-based practice, research, quality improvement, ethical principles, and safety and cost considerations
- Support stroke care requirements, including symptom recognition, NIHSS, Stroke Alert protocols, quality indicators, and patient education resources
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree or Diploma in Nursing required
- Graduate from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 10 years of Registered Nurse experience
- More than 10 months of med-surg or acute specialty setting experience required
- 1 year of RN experience required for all Float Positions
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Arizona upon hire required
- National certification for unit-specific patient population preferred
- Stroke-specific education requirements must be completed prior to start for staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures
- Knowledge of stroke symptoms, warning signs, protocols, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation, quality indicators, and education resources
- Ability to collect and analyze health data, formulate nursing diagnoses, and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise plans of care
- Ability to administer medications, therapies, IV treatments, emergency and resuscitative measures
- Ability to document care and monitoring data in a retrievable form
- Knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice, ethical principles, cultural diversity, safety, quality, and cost-effective care
