About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Architect and implement scalable RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs using Node.js and Express
- Design, own, and maintain data pipelines — ingestion, transformation, storage, and reliability
- Structure and model data to support product features, internal tools, analytics, and experimentation
- Own schema design, query optimization, indexing, and scaling across relational and NoSQL stores
- Own deployments and infrastructure on AWS, including CI/CD pipelines and monitoring
- Contribute to system design decisions as we scale — services, data flow, reliability
- Contribute to or review front-end work in React when needed; you won't be leading it, but you understand it
- Work closely with founders and teams in product, growth, and operations to turn data into outcomes
- Conduct code reviews, enforce standards, and mentor mid-level and junior developers
- Improve logging, monitoring, and data reliability across systems
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production systems
- Deep experience with Node.js (primary) or Python for backend services and API development
- Strong expertise in SQL and relational databases — Postgres strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience building or owning data pipelines and ETL workflows in production
- Solid understanding of system design, performance optimization, and scaling
- Proficiency with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.)
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) alongside relational systems
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, etc.). You've genuinely integrated AI into your daily engineering workflow and you believe AI-assisted development is the future and it shows in how you work.
- Comfort with React at a working level, you can read, review, and contribute to frontend code
- Strong communication and ownership mindset.
