About the role
- Write, own, and implement a scalable, data governance strategy aligned to the Data Strategy and AI ambitions.
- Set data domains with Data Engineering, establishing clear ownership and stewardship across the organisation.
- Establish, communicate, and enforce governance policies and standards that are scalable, cost‑efficient, and pragmatic.
- Work closely with all project owners to help identify, manage and resolve data governance issues, promoting accountability and proactive data management.
- You’ll be the person positively championing compliant, responsible access and use of data by all staff.
- Facilitate data literacy and stewardship across Homeprotect, helping colleagues understand and apply governance principles.
- Establish and maintain data quality, lineage, discoverability, and compliance standards; ensure comprehensive documentation and metadata management using modern tooling (e.g., GCP Dataplex, dbt).
- Implement and maintain IAM policies for access control, and lead the creation of DPIAs and LIAs as required by projects to support regulatory compliance and privacy by design.
Requirements
- Significant experience in data governance, with a track record of designing and implementing modern, cloud‑based, scalable governance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of metadata‑driven governance, AI governance considerations, and current industry best practice.
- Proven ability to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to define data domains, ownership models, and stewardship processes.
- Hands‑on experience with data cataloguing, quality, lineage, and governance tooling to deliver discoverability and end‑to‑end lineage.
- Skilled at embedding non‑invasive governance controls within data platforms to support effective compliance and risk management.
- Experience implementing AIM access controls and authoring DPIAs and LIAs.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills; able to foster a culture of accountability and stewardship.
- Forward‑thinking and improvement‑oriented, continually enhancing governance to support evolving analytics and AI needs.
- **Desirable**
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (e.g., BigQuery) and governance/catalogue tooling such as GCP Dataplex; familiarity with dbt.
- Experience in insurance or other highly regulated industries, with an understanding of regulatory implications for data governance.
- Experience designing and delivering data literacy and stewardship enablement programmes.
