About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct substance misuse and abuse assessments for applicants, new students, and referrals
  • Develop treatment plans and provide short-term or brief interventions
  • Monitor students with chronic substance conditions
  • Collaborate with the Center Mental Health Counselor on co-occurring disorders and chronic care management plans
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing while following chain of custody requirements
  • Maintain testing supplies
  • Record diagnoses, treatment plans, and student interactions in the Student Health Record and approved electronic systems such as CIS
  • Provide crisis intervention and evaluations during substance abuse emergencies
  • Refer students to outside care when necessary
  • Coordinate with center counselors, health providers, and instructors on behavioral contracts and intervention plans
  • Participate in TUPP and HEALs programming
  • Lead at least three annual center-wide substance use prevention and education activities
  • Participate in Disability Accommodations Committee meetings when requested

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field (highly preferred)
  • Active, unrestricted license as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) issued by the Montana Board of Behavioral Health
  • Candidates currently registered as a Licensed Addiction Counselor Candidate (ACLC) in Montana may be considered if they can legally perform supervised assessments under an on-site board-approved supervisor
  • Ability to work independently and as an integrated member of a healthcare team
  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate psycho-educational skill-building groups
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements
  • Must have an active, unrestricted substance abuse license or certification in the state where the center is located
  • Must agree to a criminal background check and drug testing as a prerequisite for performance
  • Ability to conduct center-wide activities and potentially drive students in Government vehicles
