About the role

  • Review blueprints to calculate material quantities and determine required orders based on production schedules, lead times, and backlog.
  • Plan and schedule the timely receipt, inventory control, and purchasing of materials in accordance with company policies and performance standards.
  • Attend supplier shows and maintain awareness of new materials and vendor opportunities.
  • Research and source new products to enhance profitability and efficiency.
  • Negotiate prices, terms, and supplier agreements; recommend cost-saving “super buys” to management.
  • Coordinate vendor schedules for the annual sales meeting and product training sessions.
  • Communicate upcoming material shortages or potential delays to production and assist in resolving design, quality, or delivery issues.
  • Provide brochures, samples, and warranty information to the Sales Team.
  • Support Customer Service with material-related warranty issues.
  • Supply Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other required documentation to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide pricing on special products for estimating and order processing departments.
  • Participate in the sale of damaged or obsolete materials as needed.
  • Maintain positive vendor and internal relationships to promote collaboration and productivity.
  • Comply with all safety rules and utilize appropriate safety equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of building materials used in housing construction
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Valid Driver’s License and forklift certification
  • Ability to operate purchasing and inventory software (e.g., Great Plains Dynamics or SAP) and standard computer applications
  • Strong mathematical and reasoning ability to calculate costs, quantities, and measurements
