About the role

  • Help to create, maintain, and secure the CI/CD pipelines for publishing code to cloud environments (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), ensuring fast, frequent, automated, and reliable deployments.
  • Within you value stream, own the maturity of automation of all cloud and on-premise infrastructure setup and maintenance, utilizing tools like Terraform, Bicep, and Ansible to ensure environments are wholly scripted and consistent.
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps principles and culture within the development squads, coaching and influencing engineers toward higher automation and continuous improvement maturity.
  • Design, create, and maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and logging systems at all levels (platform, application, data) to proactively identify issues and measure service availability and performance (ApDex, SLOs, SLIs).
  • Actively participate in Incident Management, Problem Resolution, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) scenarios, working to find pragmatic solutions and ensuring preventative measures are automated.
  • Review, propose and implement time-saving and cost-optimizing initiatives, regularly reviewing resource utilization and implementing auto-scaling to match demand.
  • Ensure production and dev/test environments are secure, scalable, and resilient, with a focus on containerized and serverless systems, microservice architecture and highly-available data services.
  • Automate security processes and security testing by implementing Security-as-Code principles and embedding security gates (SAST/DAST) directly within the CI/CD pipelines.
  • Conduct threat modelling and risk assessments, designing, implementing, and operating security controls to ensure all solutions are secure throughout the design and building stages.
  • Swiftly respond to new and emerging security threats and vulnerabilities, manage application security processes, and ensure security compliance is maintained across all environments.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Governance & Architecture and Group InfoSec to enforce security and compliance standards in the cloud subscriptions (tagging, naming conventions, etc.).

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Cloud native services, and containerized systems.
  • An understanding of data platforms, orchestration, warehouses, data lakes and lakehouses
  • Expertise in setting up and working with Azure DevOps pipelines or similar tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Puppet).
  • Proven experience in a technical role covering DevOps and SRE responsibilities (4+ years preferred).
  • Deep, hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform and Azure Resource Management (ARM) Templates and YAML and effectively managing state.
  • Strong experience working on solutions in Azure and GCP (preferred) or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Understanding of threat modelling, risk assessment techniques, and application security processes – experience using and implementing SAST and DAST solutions.
  • Excellent experience of implementing and using various DevOps monitoring tools such New Relic or ELK – also understanding how to set up cost management monitoring in the cloud to ensure we are alerted to overspend and can optimise spend over time.
  • You are interested, curious and aware of new techniques and tools that can accelerate the delivery of quality solutions – and are willing to experiment and adopt these when there is a valid use case to do so.
