About the role

  • Own the Design Vision and Outcomes for Your Product Area
  • Define and lead the design strategy for your product pillar—driving measurable impact on user experience, engagement, and business outcomes. You’ll ensure every design decision ties directly to both user needs and key KPIs.
  • Lead and Inspire a High-Performing Team
  • Manage and mentor a team of talented designers and design leads. You’ll create clarity, foster ownership, and inspire great work through thoughtful feedback, collaboration, and vision-setting.
  • Be a Player-Coach
  • Stay close to the work—contributing to design critiques, concept development, and critical projects. You’ll model both strategic thinking and hands-on craft, helping your team balance creativity with executional excellence.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional leaders to align on priorities, clarify problem spaces, and define success metrics. You’ll represent design at the leadership level, influencing product direction through insight and empathy.
  • Shape 0→1 Experiences
  • Lead your team in exploring, prototyping, and shipping entirely new product experiences. You’ll help translate complex or undefined problem spaces into user-centered solutions that are clear, accessible, and inspiring.
  • Hire and Scale the Team
  • Partner with the VP of Product Design to identify capability needs, attract world-class design talent, and scale the team as your product area grows.
  • Contribute to Design Leadership Across Pillars
  • Collaborate with fellow Senior Design Directors to ensure a cohesive and connected ecosystem across the broader Hims & Hers product suite. You’ll help define shared frameworks, systems, and standards that unify the experience end to end.
  • Champion the User and the Craft
  • Advocate for design excellence across the organization. You’ll uphold a high standard for visual and interaction design, accessibility, and usability, while ensuring every experience reflects our brand’s humanity and empathy.

Requirements

  • 16+ years in product design, including experience leading consumer-facing digital products at scale.
  • Experience owning clear product KPIs or outcomes, partnering with Product and Engineering to define success, and delivering against measurable goals.
  • Expertise in 0→1 and Growth Environments.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and scaling design teams.
  • Strong partnership history with Product, Engineering, and Data teams.
  • Fluent in both high-level design systems and fine interaction details.
  • A portfolio demonstrating deep experience in building elegant, engaging consumer products—especially those that involve personalization, membership, or ongoing engagement.
  • Experience building and scaling design practices.
