About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems containing logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers on electronic data processing systems
  • Determine computer user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve software and programming problems
  • Prepare operating instructions
  • Design and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs and operating systems
  • Ensure software standards are met
  • Serve as a software engineer in test for the SwCoE Test Team
  • Support software verification and test automation
  • Participate in requirements engineering and systems engineering activities
  • Review and analyze software requirements
  • Design test cases and develop test specifications to verify software implementation
  • Execute software procedures and report software issues
  • Recommend improvements to internal processes
  • Build, set up, maintain and operate test automation frameworks
  • Perform test automation and develop software applications
  • Collaborate with software test engineers and stakeholders
  • Support all aspects of the software development life cycle for shipboard network-based automation systems, including planning, requirements, development, testing, quality and configuration management
  • Support manual testing for shipboard systems, test automation and new GenAI technologies for test strategy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s Degree and 0 years of relevant professional experience
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software testing philosophies
  • Technical emphasis in software testing, electrical, instrumentation, controls, networks, cyber and automation
  • Deep understanding of the software test lifecycle, test automation and traditional and agile project management
  • Experience with industry standards for software and software testing
  • Technical knowledge of test design, test techniques and requirements analysis
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages such as C++, C# and Python
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps
  • Experience with databases such as MySQL and MS Access
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience with software configuration management tools and processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with various teams
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • ISTQB certifications are a plus
