About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Estimate labor and material costs for manufacturing and engineering based on RFP data from prospective customers
- Analyze specifications, sketches, blueprints, bills of material, and sample layouts
- Calculate production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data
- Collect cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
- Compute estimates for raw materials, subcontracted work, and labor
- Prepare and maintain historical cost data
- Create cost models for cost-estimating elements
- Prepare cost reports and present findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors
- Support estimating tasks through occasional ship checks on nuclear-powered aircraft carriers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience, or Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant professional experience
- Equivalent pathways include NNS Apprentice School graduation, Navy Nuclear Power School graduation, or an associate degree/formal 2-year program plus 2 years of relevant exempt experience
- Alternatively, 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience with an associate degree/formal 2-year program
- Military experience at paygrade E-5 or above
- High School/GED plus 4 years of combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military, or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED plus 8 years of combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military, or other relevant non-exempt experience
- U.S. citizenship required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to support occasional ship checks involving vertical/horizontal ladders and confined spaces on nuclear-powered aircraft carriers
