Structural Engineer, Level 3
HIIStructural Engineer tasked with analyzing and developing engineering specifications for facilities. Technical leadership expertise required at Newport News Shipbuilding with a focus on safety and compliance.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design
- Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
- Serve as a technical expert for O41 Plant Engineering on Facilities’ structural systems
- Provide technical leadership and direction to internal and external customers
- Perform design reviews of contractor project submittals
- Prepare and/or review impact studies
- Serve as a mentor for younger engineers
- Perform structural evaluations and respond to emergent safety related issues
- Direct work assignments of consultants and contractors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience
- Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience
- Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the structural disciplines
- Civil Engineering Degree
- Experience in steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, and wood design
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong working relationships
