About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design
- Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling
- Serve as a technical representative for O41 Plant Engineering on Facilities’ structural systems
- Provide technical direction to internal and external customers on structural-related matters
- Perform design reviews of contractor project submittals
- Prepare and/or review impact studies
- Perform structural evaluations, conduct building/infrastructure assessments
- Direct work assignments of consultants and contractors
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) in the structural disciplines is preferred
- Civil Engineering Degree
- Experience or education in steel, concrete, prestressed concrete, and wood design
- Proficient in pertinent structural/building codes and design standards
- Ability to gain and maintain a Confidential level security clearance
- AutoCAD and Inventor experience
