About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • An Ingalls Pipe Welder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding.
  • The shipyard environment is an around the clock manufacturing setting.
  • Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day.
  • A Welder may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time.
  • Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 3 Yrs. of pipewelding experience
  • Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding”
  • Ability to pass military standard X-Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper nickel in the 6G position (restricted)
  • Ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G) and overhead (4G) positions
  • Pipe welding test is given in a restricted position (6 G) on a 5'' schedule 80 carbon steel pipe GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass, 11018 electrode used for weld fill portion and cap
