Nuclear Engineer, Level 4
HIIEngineer designing and testing nuclear systems at Newport News Shipbuilding. Responsible for research and technology improvements for Navy nuclear reactors and oversight of reactor servicing work.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems
- conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors
- conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants
- studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal
- recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs
- responsible for nuclear work instruction engineering and technical cognizance of reactor servicing work
- mentors staff and provides oversight
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
- must have a strong background in technical writing
- nuclear problem resolution skills
- radiological control of nuclear work under regulatory oversight of the Navy Nuclear Reactors branch of the DOE
- experience in Navy or commercial nuclear work
