About the role
- Designs, develops, and tests nuclear equipment and systems.
- Conducts research on new materials of special interest in nuclear reactors.
- Conducts studies related to the detection and control of radiation and radioactive contaminants.
- Studies nuclear fuel cycle to define most economical uses of material and safest means of waste products disposal.
- Other areas of research include radiation transport modeling, statistical analyses and performance metrics.
- Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
- Develop, maintain, and coordinate the Nuclear Work Package in the applicable AWPs, and ensure accurate identification and assignment of NPD work.
- Understanding of Nuclear work and how new/modified work will impact other contracted work.
- Support Meetings for Internal and External Customers (e.g. Agenda meetings, IPT, E81 program reviews, scoping meetings with program office/govt), Provide guidance to teams on applicable scopes for work
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
- Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
- Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Extensive knowledge of E81 scope of work and ship systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with both internal and external customers
