About the role
- Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
- Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
- Responsible for designing and managing the Regulating Valve Controllers and Gate Valve Actuator Controllers on Ford-class ships as well as providing assistance with the RC Door Actuators and Pressurizer Heater system.
- Expected to become the subject matter expert and understand both the components and the systems associated with their equipment.
- Regularly communicates with the Navy, Department Leads, Supply Chain, Vendors, NNL, Engineers/Designers across various Departments, Waterfront, and NAVSEA via email, phone, and in person meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Experience supporting Navy/DoD programs, preferably Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, that includes interfacing with NAVSEA and its prime contractors, equipment suppliers, and shipyard trades and engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with end-user support and troubleshooting
- Experience working with suppliers on product development and improvement
- Conceptual design knowledge of valve controllers
- Demonstrate basic engineering project management skills
- Ability to proactively identify and resolve technical design issues
- Familiarity with IEEE standards
- Experience with PLC programming and embedded systems software
- Ability to read, analyze and design electrical schematics
