About the role
- Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
- Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
- This position is in support of the U.S. Navy’s GERALD R. FORD Class Aircraft Carrier Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard (PREPY).
- The position requires strong technical writing skills, the ability to proactively identify and resolve technical design issues, and the interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with Navy civilian and uniformed customers, our supply partners, shipyard trades, engineers, project managers, and business professionals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
- Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in technical troubleshooting
- Interest working with suppliers on product development and improvement
- Interest or knowledge of one or more of the following propulsion plant components: turbine generators, diesel generators, generator control systems, propulsion turbines, reduction gears, AC plants, biofouling control systems, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, or controllers
