About the role
- Analyzes, researches, designs and interprets metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs
- Develops, analyzes, researches, and designs casting molds and casting production techniques, procedures, and applications
- Provides technical guidance during casting production operations, including additions of different materials and modification of heat treatment plans to achieve specifications
- Works with other engineering disciplines to test, analyze and determine root cause of defects and failures found in metal products
- Prepares technical documentation including reports, specifications, procedures, and guides
- Creates new or modifies current test methods, fabrication methods, techniques, and procedures in order to improve metal products based on metallurgical theories
- Provides technical guidance to other engineering disciplines for the selection of metal alloys for specific applications to optimize strength, toughness, durability and corrosion resistance
Requirements
- 0 Years with Bachelors in Science
- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive within the Shipyard to perform duties of this position
- Materials Science Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or similar required
- Metallurgical Engineering focus preferred
