About the role

  • Analyzes, researches, designs and interprets metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs
  • Develops, analyzes, researches, and designs casting molds and casting production techniques, procedures, and applications
  • Provides technical guidance during casting production operations, including additions of different materials and modification of heat treatment plans to achieve specifications
  • Works with other engineering disciplines to test, analyze and determine root cause of defects and failures found in metal products
  • Prepares technical documentation including reports, specifications, procedures, and guides
  • Creates new or modifies current test methods, fabrication methods, techniques, and procedures in order to improve metal products based on metallurgical theories
  • Provides technical guidance to other engineering disciplines for the selection of metal alloys for specific applications to optimize strength, toughness, durability and corrosion resistance

Requirements

  • 0 Years with Bachelors in Science
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive within the Shipyard to perform duties of this position
  • Materials Science Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or similar required
  • Metallurgical Engineering focus preferred
