About the role

  • Manage the Aircraft Carrier Engineering Propulsion Machinery Department (E64), which leads approximately 65 employees in the design, repair, and modernization of propulsion machinery and piping systems on Aircraft Carriers
  • Troubleshoot and determine the cause of problems, then implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Implementing new technology and tools like laser-scanning and 3D high-resolution digital photography
  • Work in office, at suppliers, at in-house manufacturing facilities, and on ships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master’s Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Familiar with the US Navy aircraft carrier modernization and maintenance process, particularly planning and executing refueling complex overhauls (RCOHs) of Nimitz Class aircraft carrier propulsion plants
  • Experience managing projects or programs with respect to safety, quality, cost, and schedule
  • Experience managing people with respect to performance, engagement, training, and development
  • Excellent communication skills; be organized; strong project management skills.
