About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete and submit MassHealth applications and renewals
- Assist patients, families, and guarantors with financial documentation
- Resolve eligibility issues, denials, and coverage gaps
- Track MassHealth renewal dates and monitor deadlines
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits across multiple payers
- Review financial documents and determine private-pay versus assistance-program eligibility
- Coordinate transitions between payers and ensure billing readiness
- Educate patients, families, and guarantors about coverage, financial responsibility, and eligibility
- Maintain accurate resident financial files and audit-ready records
- Support billing and eligibility audits
- Follow up on unpaid claims and resolve billing discrepancies
- Monitor accounts receivable and payment delays
- Maintain MassHealth renewal tracking systems and generate status reports
- Communicate with state agencies, managed care organizations, and third-party payers
- Participate in interdisciplinary care and discharge planning
- Provide financial insight affecting discharge planning or long-term placement
- Coordinate with admissions, social work, clinical, and billing teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field preferred
- 2–5+ years of experience in patient financial services, case management, or healthcare billing
- Experience with Massachusetts Medicaid (MassHealth) eligibility and applications
- Experience with long-term care and hospital reimbursement
- Deep understanding of MassHealth application and renewal processes
- Knowledge of long-term care custodial reimbursement structures
- Knowledge of SNF reimbursement, including Medicare Part A and Medicaid coordination
- Knowledge of managed care reimbursement models and authorization requirements
- Knowledge of Medicaid eligibility rules, including income/assets and the 5-year lookback
- Strong knowledge of insurance verification and billing workflows
- Experience reviewing financial documents and managing cases preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with EMR and billing systems preferred
- Familiarity with Massachusetts long-term care regulations and compliance standards
- Meditech experience desirable; other nursing home software considered
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
