Key responsibilities & impact- Provide exercise programming, guidance and motivation to long-term care patients in the Circle of Fitness gym-based program and other restorative exercise programs
- Participate in and support the RUBEX unit-based exercise program
- Supervise clients in Hebrew Rehabilitation Center’s “Get Up & Go” outpatient exercise program
- Conduct physical performance evaluations and functional testing
- Develop individualized exercise programs using progressive resistance training principles
- Coach patients on proper exercise technique to improve strength, endurance and functional benefit
- Communicate medical or other changes to team members and resident care staff
- Identify contraindications and modifications for safe exercise programming
- Lead or support RUBEX group exercise classes
- Provide NuStep training and progression
- Travel between exercise programs in Roslindale and Dedham as necessary
- Attend monthly CLF staff meetings
- Monitor student interns and volunteers
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and follow safety and infection control procedures
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in a related health field such as Exercise Science or Allied Health
- Excellent critical assessment skills
- Proficient verbal, written and computer skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population
- Competence retrieving information from the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
- Ability to articulate and document patient exercise prescriptions and progress according to professional standards and guidelines
- Ability to accurately enter resident exercise information into the Patient Care System (PCS) daily
- Ability to identify contraindications and modifications for safe exercise programming
- Ability to position, transport and transfer patients
- Ability to lift supplies and equipment
- ACSM Health Fitness Instructor or Exercise Specialist certification encouraged
