About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Respond to incoming customer phone calls and written inquiries from clients, providers, and members
- Research and troubleshoot eligibility, benefits, and claim-status inquiries
- Provide accurate eligibility, benefit, and claim-status information by phone and in writing
- Serve as a trusted advisor and advocate for members, providers, brokers, and clients
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to report and resolve inquiries and prevent recurrence
- Follow up with callers promptly to ensure customer satisfaction
- Listen for understanding and address questions across a range of topics
- Maintain a personable, courteous, and professional demeanor
- Strive for first-call resolution and take ownership of the customer experience
- Navigate multiple systems while investigating and responding to customer needs
- Document phone conversations, key themes, and resolutions
- Proactively raise recurring issues and questions with management
- Own personal development to achieve proficiency and performance goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1-3+ years of experience providing superior service in a call center environment or provider's office, preferably in the healthcare industry
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of medical, vision, and dental terminology preferred
- Knowledge of customer service ethics, principles, and procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and analytical abilities
- Extensive keyboarding skills, including the ability to talk and document simultaneously
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Basic proficiency using Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Instant Messaging, and Outlook
- Ability to multitask while maintaining the flow of a conversation and typing 40+ WPM
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills a plus
- Availability to work any assigned shift beginning as early as 6:45 a.m. and ending as late as 6:15 p.m.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen
- Ability to access and handle protected health information according to HMA policies and procedures
