Oversee, develop, and manage comprehensive provincial insurance and loss prevention programs.
Support the development and negotiation of contractual agreement templates to ensure effective, consistent risk management practices.
Provide boards of directors and senior executives effective consultation and consistent information about their risks to support informed risk management.
Oversee and coordinate the provincial insurance program, including property, liability, and automobile insurance; ensure coverages consistent with appropriate levels for participating organizations.
Review and assess risks covered by insurance policies across property, construction, equipment breakdown, crime, cyber, malpractice, D&O, pension trust liability, workers’ compensation, travel accident, commercial credit, kidnap and ransom, auto, aircraft, etc.
Evaluate effectiveness of insurance policies, broker services, claims adjusters, and costs; determine appropriate insurance levels and retention strategies; support claims negotiations.
Lead the annual renewal process for liability and property insurance coverage and coordinate risk assessment checklists.
Collaborate with supply chain for procurement related to insurance; manage and review liability and property claims including self-insured claims below deductible levels.
Provide annual confirmation of coverage for health professionals and staff and issue insurance confirmations for third-party requests.
Centralize and maintain historical claims and insurance records; provide expertise and guidance to all health authorities in Manitoba.
Analyze exposures to loss and develop and implement loss reduction strategies; advise capital planning on cost-effective construction/retrofit loss protection measures.
Promote continuous loss control and review disaster recovery and contingency plans; coordinate staff education on risk management issues.
Analyze contracts to ensure appropriate risk transfer; support supply chain with contracting; provide reports on coverages, claims trends, costs, and potential risks.
Lead, coach and mentor staff; collaborate on professional development; organize work assignments; model compliance with policies and provide performance feedback.
Requirements
Five (5) years of experience in providing general insurance/risk management services, with experience in the acute health sector preferred, including managing and evaluating risk management programs, underwriting, loss prevention, claims, and interpreting and applying legislation and regulation related to insurance and risk management.
Experience in insurance adjusting is an asset.
Bachelor’s degree in business, public or health administration, insurance or a related discipline.
Must have current membership in good standing with the appropriate professional registrar and hold a sufficient combination of the following designations or memberships: Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Risk and Insurance Education Alliance Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Insurance Institute of Canada (AIIC).
Demonstrated senior leadership capabilities as described in the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in a variety of sensitive settings.
A valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle may be required for travel within the province.
Must respond to urgent claims outside of regular business hours.
