About the role

  • Lead and supervise the aquatics team to ensure that the highest standards for safety, engagement and staff performance are maintained in all aquatic areas (pool and pond).
  • Strictly enforce all waterfront procedures with both the lifeguards, camp staff and campers as described in JCC Rainbow Day Camp waterfront manual.
  • Organize camper level testing to ensure safety in all aquatic areas.
  • Serve as the lead responder for all aquatic emergencies; ensure proper implementation of emergency action plan.
  • Complete incident/accident reports and communicate with camp leadership in timely manner.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to aquatics staff.
  • Monitor aquatics facilities and proactively address issues, communicating with camp leadership as needed.
  • Supervise the staff assigned to the learn to swim program for campers and staff taking instructional swim
  • Work with the camp facilities staff to coordinate pool chlorine testing and recording results. Also coordinate with facilities staff about cleaning all pool traps and meeting other health and safety requirements.
  • Assist administrative staff team in other areas such as assemblies, lunch, and all camp events.
  • Ensure aquatics areas are consistently clean and organized.
  • Be aware and effectively address the group and social dynamics of campers.
  • Ability to contribute to the Rainbow Day Camp team through spirit, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.
  • Develop an appropriate counselor/camper relationship with every camper.
  • Be a quality role model for children.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Participation in activities such as spirit days, camp programs, and songs.
  • Position requires all staff members to actively work outdoors in warm weather conditions, including sun exposure, for most of the camp day.

Requirements

  • Must hold or obtain: Lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid certification (in-house course available)
  • Experience managing risk and safety protocols
  • Experience working in youth development or youth programming field
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate, as well as to supervise a diverse staff and large number of campers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to have fun and encourage community at camp.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field; significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience including staff supervision
