About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise and provide technical direction to a team of engineers and process engineering designers as Lead Engineer
- Deliver process engineering deliverables and services on time, within budget, and to quality expectations
- Promote safe working practices and incorporate process safety into process design
- Review and approve process engineering deliverables, calculations, reports, studies, drawings, vendor information, and discipline inputs
- Validate and produce professional service estimates; track changes, costs, schedules, and quality
- Establish project design criteria while incorporating client requirements and applicable codes and standards
- Establish and communicate permitting requirements
- Develop process engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, and procedures
- Plan, organize, and communicate project team work for major and multiple capital projects
- Track project budgets, schedules, commitments, deliverables, and quality standards using project control tools
- Delegate work to engineers and designers and provide technical support
- Coordinate with design leaders from other disciplines for inter-disciplinary alignment
- Produce preliminary designs, conceptual layouts, cost studies, detailed design calculations, drawings, equipment specifications, and construction specifications
- Optimize designs for constructability, operability, and maintenance
- Develop bid packages for procurement of equipment, materials, and services
- Participate in professional society meetings, pre-bid meetings, client presentations, scope reviews, sales activities, and proposal development
- Travel for client presentations and project-related tasks
- Mentor less experienced process engineers
- Review resumes, conduct interviews, and complete interview evaluations
- Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support
- Provide leadership for communication and execution within scope, schedule, and budget
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required
- 10 years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering
- Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification highly preferred
- Ability to train others in process safety and site safety requirements
- Knowledge of process safety and its incorporation into process design
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping
- Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from vendor equipment data and drawings
- Ability to estimate task completion accurately
- Ability to assist with detailed engineering schedules and man-hour budgets for major capital projects
- Experience estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing process engineering work progress and quality
- Ability to develop design criteria and scope of work for major capital projects
- Complete understanding of process engineering and design functions
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards
- Knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Ability to lead a small team on a major capital project
- Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services to clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Knowledge of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet
- Knowledge of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, or ProMax
- Very good verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to travel for pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and project site meetings
- Virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationship development
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods
- Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States
