About the role
- Supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and process engineering designers
- Work as an individual contributor
- Delivery of process engineering deliverables and services on time, within budget and meeting quality expectations
- Perform advanced engineering work as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments
- Promote a culture of working safely and integrating safety into process design
- Review and approve all process deliverables
- Validate and track project estimates and changes
- Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements and applicable standards
- Develop project engineering standards and specifications
- Communicate plans to the team and project leadership
- Track and maintain budget progress and schedule commitments
- Delegate work to engineers and designers
- Produce estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs
- Review and check vendor drawings for process input
- Assist the drafting group with layout and detail problems
- Participate in professional society meetings and client presentations
- Actively participate in mentoring less experienced engineers
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or Paper Chemistry from an accredited university is required
- Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred
- 15+ years of relevant experience in pulp and paper engineering
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment
- Ability to create accurate process documents from vendor equipment drawings
- Ability to develop process and equipment specifications
- Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks
- Ability to develop project cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets
- Ability to develop Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Experienced in estimating and scheduling professional service hours
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards
- Knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both is preferred
- Working knowledge of project simulation software such as WinGEMS® and CADSIM
- Ability to calculate pressure and flow for systems used throughout the Pulp and Paper Industry
- Ability to lead teams to deliver on commitments
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
