About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess patients and formulate treatment plans
- Implement treatment plans and follow up with patients
- Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
- Collaborate with physicians on patient evaluations and treatment options
- Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss
- Design prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Select materials, take casts and measurements, modify models, and prepare layouts
- Fit devices, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate and adjust devices for fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality
- Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Identify and resolve device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
- Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and operational/financial performance
- Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to review services and develop referral relationships
- Implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets
- Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians as needed
- Assist other clinical staff
- Provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities
- Comply with safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne, and OSHA requirements
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
- May perform on-call or hospital calls and float between Hanger Clinic locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from ABC or BOC, or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
- Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
- Candidates certified in one discipline may be considered while completing residency in the other discipline
- Candidates without certification or board eligibility may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under a certified clinician’s supervision
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and suitability and reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication skills for patient and staff reports
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient-care services
- Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Interpersonal skills for professional relationships with physicians, therapists, and patients
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Organizational, time-management, and planning skills
- Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds alone
- Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during the workday
- Sufficient near and distant visual acuity
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
- Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility
- Fine motor skills for preparing patients, equipment, and supplies
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
