About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess patients and formulate, implement, and follow up on comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic treatment plans
  • Collaborate with physicians and rehabilitation team members on patient evaluations and treatment options
  • Design, fabricate, select materials for, fit, align, adjust, and evaluate prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices and resolve device issues
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
  • Deliver in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
  • Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and medical efficacy
  • Build relationships with physicians, case managers, and referral sources
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet revenue targets
  • Maintain detailed clinical notes and support reimbursement activities
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians and assist clinical staff
  • Comply with safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne, and OSHA requirements
  • Perform on-call, hospital calls, or float between Hanger Clinic locations as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from ABC or BOC, or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
  • Candidates certified in one discipline may complete residency in the other discipline while seeing patients in the certified discipline
  • Candidates without certification or board eligibility may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under a certified clinician’s supervision
  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, componentry, reliability, and medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication and report presentation skills
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
  • Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
  • Good interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds alone
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during the workday
  • Sufficient near and distant visual acuity, speech, hearing, and fine motor skills
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment and sustain activities for many hours
  • Compliance with applicable safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne, and OSHA requirements
