About the role

  • Support the General Counsel and supervise litigation paralegals and administrative personnel within the Legal Department.
  • Design and implement processes, systems, and best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal team, facilitating change, and controlling costs.
  • Manage day-to-day legal operations, responsible for litigation-related matters, including patient record requests and outside legal counsel invoices.
  • Oversee litigation paralegals and administrative personnel, assigning and prioritizing work, managing caseloads, and providing guidance on conflict resolution.
  • Ensure project and department deadlines, milestones, and goals are achieved.
  • Exercise full authority for day-to-day personnel actions and performance evaluations; make recommendations regarding hiring, termination, compensation, and promotions.
  • Manage litigation matters, maintain communications with law firms and others retained to defend the Company and its employees.
  • Review and scope document production requests; identify required resources and confer with lead attorney on compliance approach within parameters and deadlines.
  • Oversee and assist with the creation and maintenance of legal databases; collect and/or identify data for input into legal databases.
  • Assist attorneys in interviewing and preparing witnesses for depositions.
  • Partner with Accounting, IT, and other professionals to support litigation activities, providing and updating recommended reserves for pending litigation matters, coordinating legal holds and tracking preservation responses, and managing document requests.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for internal business units regarding litigation and legal services.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certification or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions.
  • Must understand business implications of decisions.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to think independently and take corrective action.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage others and establish rapport.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, adjust to sudden changes in workflow, and maintain high quality standards.
  • Ability to maintain all job-related information in a confidential and private manner
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Legal Tracker (formerly Serengeti).
  • Attendance, punctuality and overall dependability; consistently at work and on time, and available to provide required services.
