About the role
- Provide a high level of customer service to patients, fellow employees and referral sources
- Perform specialized clerical and administrative technical work pertaining to the authorization and billing of clients
- Enter, review and update all billing, codes and account information
- Review and reconcile reports
- Ensure billing for all services provided is accurate
- Print bills to collect revenues
- Audit account accuracy
- Perform daily, weekly and month end close activities
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including HIPAA requirements
- Obtain and maintain accurate patient, billing and insurance information
- Verify and pre-authorize in patient files and in the billing system
- Review charts for completed checklist or PCRE
- Convert NextGen encounters after running and clearing all claim edits
- Submit paper and electronic daily claims
- Reconcile electronic billing error/submission/rejection report
- Mail paper claims to carriers and file resubmissions
- Coordinate communications with payers to ensure accurate billing practices
- Report timely key statistics to market and corporate management for sales, revenue, cash and patient flow
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Requires 2 years of related experience
- high school education or equivalent
- Associate degree preferred
- Experience in a medical office preferred
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, statues, regulations, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of healthcare billing principles and practices
- Working knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, HCPC/CPT and other coding
- Proficient computer skills, including Windows based office technologies, computerized billing systems and report writer software
- Excel or comparable spreadsheet experience required
