About the role

  • Handshake is recruiting Curator Professionals to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed.

  • The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.
  • Create a Handshake account here.
  • Upload your resume and verify your identity.
  • Get matched and onboarded into relevant projects.
  • Start working and earning.

Requirements

  • You have at least 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following types of work.
  • Plan and organize the acquisition, storage, and exhibition of collections and related materials, including selection of exhibition themes and designs and development or installation of exhibit materials.
  • Develop and maintain registration, cataloging, and record-keeping systems using computerized databases.
  • Plan and conduct special research projects within areas of expertise or institutional focus.
  • Provide information from institutional holdings to other curators and the public.
  • Negotiate and authorize the purchase, sale, exchange, or loan of collection items.
  • Study, examine, and test acquisitions to authenticate origin, composition, history, and current value.
  • Inspect facilities to identify repair needs and ensure appropriate climate and pest control measures.
  • Write and review grant proposals, scholarly articles, institutional reports, and promotional materials.
  • Design, organize, and lead tours, workshops, and educational programs related to institutional collections.
  • Attend meetings, conventions, and civic events to promote institutional services, secure funding, and maintain community partnerships.
  • Train, supervise, and support curatorial, technical, research, fiscal, and administrative staff, as well as interns and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with boards of directors to establish policies, define budget requirements, and plan overall operations.
  • Arrange insurance coverage for loaned objects and special exhibitions and recommend collection-wide coverage updates.
  • Schedule events and manage logistical details including refreshments, entertainment, décor, and fee collection.
  • Establish specifications for reproductions and oversee production or selection from commercial replica sources.
  • You’re able to participate in asynchronous work in partnership with leading AI labs.
Benefits
  • The position is remote and asynchronous; work independently from wherever you are.
  • The hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs.
  • The work includes developing prompts for AI models that reflect your field, and then evaluating responses.
  • You’ll learn new skills and contribute to how AI is used in your field.
