About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead development of warehouse design packages, including material flow diagrams, facility layouts, material handling equipment, automation, storage media, process designs, slotting, and pick path analyses
- Manage engineering activities during implementation, including automation and material handling vendor management and systems and equipment installation and testing
- Analyze client data with the Data Analytics team to determine order profiles, storage media application, product slotting, velocity, SKU affinities, and ABC analysis
- Prepare engineering calculations and operating concept documents covering storage and shipping capacity, facility sizing, zoning, slotting, and waving
- Facilitate reviews with engineering, WMS Implementation, operations, and other workstream leads
- Design facility layouts, storage media, and material flow with appropriate equipment
- Support RFP responses by developing materials and presenting solutions to potential clients
- Evaluate manual and automated warehouse solutions and develop ROI and payback analyses
- Lead detailed engineering from conceptualization through implementation-ready design, including data analysis, material handling specifications, vendor quotes, and engineered AutoCAD layouts
- Conduct joint planning sessions and gap analyses with clients; document scope changes and escalate issues
- Prepare WMS configuration documentation and support new WMS and interface requirements
- Manage material handling and automation vendors through scheduling, permitting, installation, commissioning, and punch lists
- Validate equipment installation and conduct performance testing
- Provide post-go-live support and troubleshooting
- Lead and mentor junior engineers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent related work or military experience
- 4 years of engineering experience in supply chain management, logistics, warehousing, or a related field
- Experience leading Engineering teams
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- 8–10 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer preferred
- Experience with advanced data tools such as SQL, Power BI, and Python preferred
- Extensive AutoCAD experience preferred
- Ability to travel up to 50%
- Time study measurement, such as MOST, a plus
- Third-Party Logistics (3PL), warehousing, distribution center, or fulfillment experience
- Analytical, project, and resource management experience
- May be required to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must comply with GXO policies and applicable CDC, OSHA, state, and local COVID safety requirements
