About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set the UX vision and strategy across the Money and Risk teams, connecting multiple pods and ensuring a cohesive platform experience
  • Identify and drive high-impact design opportunities across Money and Risk
  • Influence product strategy, roadmap priorities, and team OKRs alongside product directors and engineering leaders
  • Define AI-first financial UX, including clear uncertainty representation, graceful error handling, preserved user agency, and trust in automated decisions
  • Own customer-understanding practices across Money and Risk by setting learning priorities and synthesizing insights
  • Raise experience quality through hands-on design, direction-setting, and direct IC work on specific projects
  • Develop designers through coaching, critique, and structured mentorship
  • Evolve Gusto’s design system and platform standards with scalable patterns and frameworks

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of Product Design experience
  • Track record leading design direction across multiple teams, pods, or product domains simultaneously
  • Experience designing high-trust, high-stakes experiences where errors have real consequences
  • Experience shaping product strategy at domain or portfolio level with product and engineering leaders
  • High craft bar with hands-on prototyping, iteration, and shipping
  • Coaching, critique, and mentorship experience
  • Experience advancing experience architectures and service models spanning multiple teams
  • Ability to lead through influence, anticipate organizational friction, and coordinate design across teams
  • Active use of AI in design practice and ability to critically evaluate and course-correct AI-generated outputs
  • Point of view and demonstrated action regarding AI’s impact on product design
  • Fintech or financial services background is a plus
