About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own end-to-end revenue recognition for the Gusto Retirement segment, including 401K SaaS, IRA, AUM fees, and plan administration
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, subledger reconciliations, and supporting schedules for retirement revenue streams
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close within established timelines
  • Apply ASC 606 guidance to complex arrangements, including variable consideration, contract modifications, and principal-versus-agent assessments
  • Build and maintain automated solutions using AI tools, Python/SQL, or Excel scripting
  • Identify and implement revenue-close process improvements to reduce cycle time and increase accuracy
  • Partner with auditors during annual audits by leading walkthroughs, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries
  • Collaborate with Retirement Operations, FP&A, Engineering, and Data teams on revenue data integrity and new product launches

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years focused on revenue accounting
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 applied to SaaS, subscription, or fee-based models
  • Proven experience building automation scripts, tools, or workflows that reduced manual effort
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Python or SQL experience is a strong plus
  • NetSuite or revenue subledger experience is a plus
  • Big 4 or public accounting background preferred
  • Fintech or financial services experience is a bonus
  • Comfort with ambiguity and interest in AI and building processes from scratch
