Frame loosely defined data engineering problems and align stakeholders
Design, build, and deliver durable data solutions end-to-end
Build tools and systems that make Gusto's data consistent, user-friendly, and helpful
Partner with analytics, product, and engineering teams
Deliver data solutions that drive business and customer impact
Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products
Ingest data from APIs, databases, SaaS applications, and event streams
Implement reliable, testable, and maintainable data transformations
Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and data observability

Requirements

What you’ll need

8–10+ years of industry experience in data engineering building scalable data pipelines and data products
Strong proficiency in SQL
Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Scala, or Java
Experience building and maintaining robust data pipelines and ETL workflows
Hands-on dbt experience
Experience ingesting data from APIs, databases, SaaS applications, and event streams
Foundation in data modeling, schema design, and data quality best practices
Functional experience with cloud platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Databricks
Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and data observability
Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and incident response for production-grade data pipelines
Ability to optimize performance and cost across data workflows and storage systems
Functional understanding of AI and automation in data engineering
Problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to actively engage with AI tools relevant to the role and develop AI fluency
