About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the investment strategy for Gusto’s tax compliance capabilities
- Decide which capabilities to build and how to sequence them
- Set the long-term direction for tax compliance at Gusto
- Make tradeoffs regarding time and resources and create an executable plan
- Partner with Engineering, Design, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and CX
- Identify friction, validate solutions, and build alignment
- Prototype and work deeply in tax-related problems
- Use AI to ship scalable solutions
- Build tooling, automation, and AI-enabled systems for tax payments and filings
- Own outcomes end to end
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of hands-on product management experience, including ownership of internal-facing platforms, tooling, or operational systems
- Track record of driving leverage through automation, tooling, or system improvements
- Strong technical fluency and partnership with engineering
- Comfort operating in complex codebases
- Experience in a compliance-driven or highly regulated domain
- Hands-on experience with AI and automation
- Ability to use data to identify opportunities, set goals, and measure impact
- Exceptional cross-functional partnership, especially with Operations, Compliance, and Engineering
- Ability to bring structure to ambiguity and make prioritization tradeoffs
