About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform billing processes, follow-up, account resolution, adjustments and scanning
  • Work with other departments to meet departmental and facility goals and objectives
  • Contact third-party payers and guarantors via payer websites or phone to resolve account balances
  • Process correspondence within 24 hours and document notes in the client system
  • Work denials and take actions to obtain account resolution
  • Submit appeals for non-clinical denials as appropriate
  • Monitor denial trends and report findings to the supervisor
  • Bill or rebill claims as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal billing rules and HIPAA
  • Complete special projects within assigned time frames
  • Attend client and third-party payer training sessions and seminars
  • Document accounts worked in the client practice management system
  • Make corrections in the client practice management system
  • Resolve or forward address and plan changes to maintain insurance master integrity
  • Update patient accounts with corrected demographic or insurance information
  • Post adjustments according to standard operating procedures or leadership direction
  • Handle internal and external customer calls professionally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma / GED or 3 years of relevant equivalent experience in lieu of Diploma / GED
  • 0-2+ year's experience in office, business, operations, customer service or healthcare field
  • Previous experience working with insurance portals
  • PC skills in a Windows environment are required
  • Knowledge and utilization of desktop applications including Word and Excel is essential
  • Ability to initiate and follow through on projects and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Extensive knowledge of billing and accounts receivable follow-up
  • Knowledge of timely filing guidelines
  • Ability to review remittance advices and electronic billing reports from payers
  • Ability to comply with state and federal billing rules and HIPAA regulations
