About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review emails in assigned public folders, including internal case-team emails, scanned mail, and ECF filings/serves, to determine docketing necessity
  • Decide whether docket items qualify for addition to case-team Outlook calendars
  • Assess and prioritize received items to create queues for public folders
  • Enter and update deadlines in ProLaw using Westlaw Legal Calendaring Rules
  • Communicate with case teams to gather information for case setup and management
  • Conduct limited research to verify deadline applicability
  • Respond to litigation-team inquiries regarding docketed events, deadlines, and rules
  • Maintain and improve processes and procedures for accurate calendar and docket-date entry
  • Promote the firm’s docketing policies and procedures through communications with litigation teams
  • Report to the Litigation Docketing Supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Substantial experience computing deadlines for state, federal, and appellate courts
  • Strong knowledge of litigation processes, court rules, and procedures
  • Strong critical-thinking skills for processing complex orders and analyzing effects on case deadlines
  • Ability to research, analyze, and summarize issues in writing
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Familiarity with court websites, docket searching, and document-retrieval databases
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and collaborate in a team
  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and presentation
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of current California litigation experience on case teams
  • Minimum 7 years of current federal litigation experience
  • Prior litigation paralegal or legal secretary experience preferred
  • Prior experience in large firms preferred
  • Prior experience with rules-based calendar systems such as ProLaw, Compulaw, or eDockets required
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
  • Exceptional computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible professional use
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, firm-approved AI tools such as Copilot or ChatGPT
  • Ability to work remotely while living in close proximity to one of six California offices
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
