About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as on-site Safety Officer for assigned projects
  • Monitor and inspect job sites for health and safety compliance and identify potential hazards
  • Implement safety and health policies onsite and discuss issues with project managers, contractors, and safety professionals
  • Provide health and safety training and information to onsite employees
  • Establish and manage jobsite safety culture according to Gray’s safety program
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring new site safety team members
  • Review and evaluate contractor site safety programs and determine compliance
  • Mentor contractors to assure compliance with Gray guidelines
  • Maintain owner- and Gray-specified safety records
  • Assist in developing project-specific site safety plans and emergency response plans
  • Confer with supervisory personnel to resolve workforce complaints and grievances
  • Manage multiple subordinate team members, including training, work assignment, performance management, complaint handling, and problem resolution
  • Indirectly manage subcontractors, consultants, and general laborers
  • Travel to project sites throughout the United States and, in some cases, outside the United States

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational or environmental health and safety (or similar) and a minimum of 5 years of related construction safety experience or training, OR 5–10 years of related construction safety experience or training
  • Leadership skills to cultivate a cohesive and successful team
  • Light/heavy industrial construction experience
  • Ability to identify potential exposures and lead corrective actions
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and tablet use
  • NCSO and Advanced First Aid strongly preferred/desired
  • Selected candidate can live anywhere in the USA and must travel to project sites under Gray’s travel policy
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including frequent lifting/moving up to 25 lbs and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to work in wet/humid conditions, around moving mechanical parts, outdoors, at heights, near fumes/airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, explosives, vibration, and moderate-to-loud noise
  • Overtime may be required
