Support pre-construction estimating and electrical design for projects at Gray Construction.
Develop and refine cost estimates for electrical systems using historical data, market analysis, and technical specifications.
Perform detailed value engineering analyses to optimize system performance and cost-efficiency while ensuring design integrity.
Coordinate bids with subcontractors and lead distribution of technical RFP documents; manage bid leveling processes.
Review subcontractor proposals for compliance with technical requirements and identify gaps.
Prepare and maintain detailed records of cost estimates, project specifications, bid documentation, and project status reports.
Lead development of exhibit A’s and contract documentation and assist in preparing project proposals and bid evaluations.
Collaborate with design and engineering teams to refine designs and ensure technical feasibility and efficiency.
Support transition from pre-construction to construction by delivering documentation and detailed design specifications.
Manage concurrent pre-construction efforts and support execution teams in deploying complex system solutions.
Provide leadership, mentor junior technical staff, and present technical information to internal and external customers.
Travel to construction sites to review designs and project progress (travel <20%).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related discipline) preferred; equivalent years of related experience will be considered in place of a technical degree.
Significant experience (8+ years) in electrical design, project estimating, or construction management.
MBA or related business qualification or experience desirable.
Prior experience in construction estimating preferred (emphasis on design-build MEP approach with coordination of design and engineering efforts).
Experience reviewing and analyzing construction documents from subcontractors and engineers to confirm compliance with project scope.
Experience working with design and engineering managers to ensure projects are designed, specified, procured, and constructed within operating guidelines and technical requirements.
Electrical experience with electrical distribution systems, controls, lighting, power generation, process engineering, electrical design, single line diagrams, or construction management required.
Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail.
Travel up to 20%.
Strong leadership capabilities with focus on mentoring and developing junior engineers and technical staff.
Proven ability to guide teams in applying best practices for system design, installation, and problem-solving.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; presentations are required to internal and external customers.
Proficiency in industry-specific modeling or estimating tools preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
