Associate Underwriter
GravieAssociate Underwriter joining Gravie’s Underwriting team to evaluate and price health insurance plans for small to mid-sized employer groups. Collaborating with underwriters, sales, and account management for compliance and competitiveness.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the evaluation and pricing of health insurance plans for small to mid-sized employer groups
- Work closely with experienced underwriters, sales, and account management
- Ensure competitive, accurate, and compliant quotes for level-funded products
- Learn underwriting tools, guidelines, and rating methodologies
- Manage a caseload ensuring performance expectations across turnaround time, productivity, accuracy, pricing integrity, and block profitability
- Use Gravie’s proprietary underwriting engine to produce rating output
- Prepare initial rate quotes and renewals under supervision
- Escalate complex cases to senior underwriters and/or managers
- Explain pricing and product offerings to Sales and Account Management
- Collaborate with internal and external teams (sales, actuarial, brokers, etc.)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Insurance or other related experience
- 0–2 years of underwriting experience, preferably in health insurance or employee benefits
- Exposure to level-funded or self-funded insurance products
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Effective written and verbal communication
- An eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
- Basic math knowledge and understanding is a must
- Internship or experience in insurance, healthcare analytics, or benefits consulting (extra credit)
- Exposure to group health underwriting or level-funded/self-funded plans (extra credit)
- Coursework or certification in insurance or risk management (extra credit)
