Key responsibilities & impact

Coordinate daily crew tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting for weather, supply, delivery, and personnel changes
Delegate responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors
Recruit, hire, train, manage, and mentor employees and contractors
Provide resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs
Emphasize safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment and train workers on safety gear, helmets, and procedures
Develop and manage project budgets and quality standards for all sites
Resolve conflicts and miscommunications quickly and amicably
Report project status regularly to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials
Supervise and coordinate the work of paving crew workers
Ensure employees perform their jobs skillfully and efficiently and assigned work progresses on schedule

Requirements

What you’ll need

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
Appropriate training and experience required
Customer-service skills for communicating with inspectors and administration
Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors to meet deadlines and budgets
Leadership skills for delegating tasks to workers
Speaking skills for giving clear orders and explaining complex information to clients and construction workers
Technical skills for interpreting construction methods, technologies, contracts, and technical drawings
Time-management skills to meet deadlines and complete construction phases on time
Writing skills for budgets, proposals, plans, and work-progress documentation
Ability to work skillfully with hands
Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds

Ability to reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools
Ability to bend, crouch, and work in small places
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
