Backend Engineer

• Design and build Java services and APIs that power Grand and the customer-facing product
• Model the data that powers our product — turning messy external signals into a coherent product surface
• Build event-driven pipelines that ingest, transform, and enrich data from external sources
• Operate production systems with a security-first mindset — regulated data, audit, compliance
• Design APIs and data models that hold up under real distributed concerns: latency, retries, idempotency, partial failure
• Build search, indexing, and query systems at scale
• Integrate AI capabilities into backend workflows where they make the product meaningfully better
• Make product decisions on what to build and how, in collaboration with founders and other engineers
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, and refactoring
• Own features through their full lifecycle, from idea → production → iteration

Founding Backend Engineer, Java

Data Scientist

• Design and build core AI and data systems that support decision-making across the platform
• Work with complex, imperfect, and evolving data from multiple internal and external sources
• Develop models and signals that balance accuracy, uncertainty, and explainability
• Help define how intelligence is represented, updated, and acted upon inside the product
• Decide when to use ML, statistical methods, rules, or hybrids, and why
• Partner closely with product and engineering so AI is embedded in workflows, not bolted on
• Establish standards for evaluation, monitoring, and iteration in production
• Use modern AI tooling, including LLMs where appropriate, with a bias toward leverage over novelty
• Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure outputs are defensible and robust
• Move fast without being reckless, understanding the cost of false confidence

AI Engineer

• Design and build the runtime and orchestration layer for AI systems across the platform
• Turn probabilistic AI outputs into controlled, repeatable system behaviour
• Define how AI decisions are triggered, gated, validated, and executed
• Build guardrails, fallbacks, and confidence thresholds into AI flows
• Design human-in-the-loop and escalation paths where required
• Own prompt lifecycle management, evaluation, and versioning
• Manage context assembly, scoping, and data boundaries for AI tasks
• Build systems for logging, tracing, replay, and auditability
• Control latency, cost, reliability, and degradation in production
• Partner closely with AI data scientists to productionise models and signals
• Collaborate with product engineers to integrate AI safely into workflows
• Ensure AI systems are defensible, inspectable, and regulator-ready

• Own Grand’s visual and motion identity across brand, marketing, and product storytelling
• Design and produce brand films, motion graphics, social content, and launch materials
• Define and evolve our motion language — how the brand moves, transitions, and communicates
• Work hands-on across motion, animation, video, and visual design
• Use AI as a default creative accelerator for ideation, iteration, and production
• Collaborate closely with the entire team to tell the product story through motion and visual storytelling
• Raise the quality of everything we put into the world through relentless execution
• Build visual systems that scale across channels (web, social, video, product moments)
• Rapidly concept, prototype, and ship creative ideas — from scrappy experiments to polished deliverables
• Balance speed and taste — moving fast without lowering the bar.
