About the role

  • Lead high-impact customer data migrations, ensuring smooth, accurate transitions from legacy systems into GovWell’s modern platform.
  • Build and maintain scalable data onboarding workflows using Python, SQL, and tools like Airflow and Hex to automate transformation, validation, and loading.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Deployment teams to design and improve data processes that accelerate customer onboarding and adoption.
  • Partner directly with government staff to understand their data models, map schemas, and resolve edge cases that impact migration success.
  • Develop internal tools and templates that standardize and speed up data migration as GovWell scales.
  • Contribute to post-migration analytics by ensuring clean, structured datasets are available for reporting and decision-making.
  • Report directly to Ben Cohen, Co-Founder and CTO; shape the foundations of GovWell’s data function while working closely with Product, Engineering, and Deployment teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or data engineering, ideally in SaaS or B2B environments
  • Proficient in SQL and Python
  • Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines (Airflow a plus)
  • Experience working with large, messy datasets
  • Strong grasp of data validation, transformation, and QA
  • Comfortable collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to translate complex findings into plain language
  • Detail-oriented and outcome-driven
  • Ability to partner directly with government staff to map schemas and resolve edge cases
  • Familiarity with Hex, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, TypeScript, and AWS
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States (application asks about authorization)
