About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Screen and assess cases to determine whether family mediation is appropriate
  • Conduct pre-mediation sessions, explain options, provide resources, and screen for safety concerns
  • Deliver non-evaluative, facilitative, client-focused, ethical mediation
  • Enter into service agreements with clients
  • Use effective strategies in high-conflict situations
  • Help parties address needs and interests, focusing on the best interests of children
  • Apply relevant Family Law knowledge
  • Provide written summaries of agreements
  • Assist parties in adjusting to new family structures and circumstances
  • Engage in peer consultation and co-mediation
  • Consult with Family Court Counsellors, Case Flow Coordinators, government departments, and community agencies
  • Participate in government and community-based agencies, boards, or groups to connect Resolution Services with the community

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 180 hours of Mediation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and/or Conflict Management training
  • At least 40 hours of training must be in separation and divorce or family mediation
  • One of: Bachelor of Social Work with some related experience; Master of Social Work; related university degree with 2 years related experience; related diploma with 3 years related experience; or related certificate with 4 years related experience
  • Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills, including multi-party and high-conflict mediation
  • Strong knowledge of interest-based, facilitative, and non-evaluative mediation
  • Strong knowledge of child development and children’s needs during separation or divorce
  • Strong assessment and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to handle sensitive and complex matters involving families and children
  • Final candidates must undergo a criminal records check
  • Candidates must clearly document education, experience, training courses, training hours, and institutions in their resume
