About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess and evaluate court files to determine if protocol and legislative requirements have been complied with
  • Coordinate the scheduling of hearings as required in an effective manner
  • Manage and maintain a structured scheduling system
  • Efficient and effective management and control of the civil/family/criminal court case load
  • Book various types of hearings as required
  • Monitor and analyze the scheduling system to ensure court time is utilized as efficiently as possible
  • Maintaining required statistics
  • Organize and monitor court bookings and cancellations of various types of criminal, civil and family hearings
  • Ensure resource availability, including courtrooms, equipment, and technology
  • Confirm and communicate sittings booked, changed, or cancelled with counsel, legal assistant team, court administration, court staff, and any other participants
  • Prepare various scheduling and statistical reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • All applicants must include a cover letter of 300 - 400 words in length
  • Two-year diploma in a related field plus four years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described
  • Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience
  • Directly related experience may include but is not limited to Case Management, Legal Assistant/Paralegal, Judicial Assistant, Court Clerk, and Dispute Resolution
  • Knowledge of the Court of Kings’ Bench processes for Civil and Criminal matters
  • Familiarity with Court of Kings’ Bench operations
  • Familiarity with legislation and regulations, such as the Alberta Rules of Court, Criminal Code as well as King’s Bench Notices to the Profession and Practice Notes
  • Working experience with the Judiciary and Court Administration
  • A Legal Assistant Diploma
  • Experience in Coordinating high volume Scheduling
