About the role
- Plan and manage the legislative agenda for the Ministry to ensure the legislative and regulatory environment meets business needs and policy intent.
- Provide strategic advice regarding legislative, regulatory, and policy matters.
- Support regulations and Bills through the government decision-making process by developing required materials (drafting instructions, legislation charts, Recommendations for Orders in Council, Ministerial Orders).
- Draft Recommendations for Orders in Council (ROCs) and Ministerial Orders (MOs).
- Prepare legislative tool for delegation of the Minister's legislative authority.
- Assist in the implementation of strategies to enhance capacity for legislative excellence.
- Lead and participate in legislative and project work.
- Support the Manager and Director in achieving the mandate and goals of the unit and branch.
Requirements
- University degree in a related field.
- 4 years progressively responsible related experience.
- Experience or understanding in the preparation of accurate drafting instructions for legislative counsel and the translation of policy objectives into applicable legislative instruments.
- Experience with government systems, policy cycle and policy approval processes.
- Experience writing reports, briefings, policy documents, and/or presentations with recommendations to senior leadership.
- Experience planning and leading policy projects, project management, and facilitating meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- The following equivalencies may be considered: Diploma plus 6 years' related experience. Certificate plus 7 years' related experience. Masters plus 2 year's related experience. 8 years of related experience in lieu of formal education.
