About the role

  • Reporting to the Manager of Design, Production and Operations, the Graphic Designer is part of a multidisciplinary creative team that develops visual solutions to communicate key messages to targeted audiences.
  • The role involves conceptualizing, designing, and producing a variety of graphic materials that support marketing and communications initiatives, educational programs, and wayfinding systems.
  • The Graphic Designer applies industry-standard software, typography, and design practices, along with strong conceptual and creative skills.
  • The Graphic Designer collaborates closely with fellow designers and graphic production technicians to develop design products that align with communications and marketing needs.
  • The role includes consulting with Marketing & Communication colleagues and other team members to define project parameters, offering informed advice on visual communication and production methods, and contributing to continuous improvement while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field (i.e. Arts, Visual Communications, Graphic Design) plus three years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Advanced proficiency with Mac computer platform and design software packages (including Adobe Creative Suite) and the Microsoft 365 office applications.
  • Knowledge of materials and processes used in print media, exhibit graphics, digital media and indoor/outdoor signage.
  • Demonstrated content analysis and problem-solving skills to integrate diverse exhibition 2D graphic products into a consistent whole.
  • Knowledge of museum visitor studies and informal learning theory as applied to exhibition development.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of visual communications as it relates to print media, digital media, environmental graphics, advertising, interpretive displays and indoor/outdoor signage.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of accessibility standards.
  • Effective project management skills, and ability to manage own work independently.
  • Class 5 driver's license.
